Electroplating is a surface treatment that involves depositing a certain metal onto another metal part in order to improve its durability, longevity, and aesthetic value. This electrochemical treatment carefully and precisely forms a layer of the desired metal on a solid substrate, protecting the material underneath while enhancing its corrosion resistance, abrasion and wear resistance, electrical conductivity, and other properties.

Electroplating is a versatile treatment that can utilize a wide range of metal materials. The most common types are nickel and zinc nickel, but many other metal deposits are available as well, such as gold, silver, and cadmium. Each metal deposit has its own advantages and disadvantages, as well as the particular applications that it best fits.

Regardless of the type of metal deposit you need, electroplating has many benefits. It forms a protective barrier against things like corrosion and abrasion, ensuring that parts last longer and need to be replaced far less frequently. It also enhances the appearance of the part, and can be used to improve certain properties depending on the metal deposited. Silver for instance offers excellent electrical conductivity, while nickel reduces surface friction, which is especially important for moving parts. Some metal deposits can even improve a part’s heat resistance, like gold or zinc-nickel.

Electroplating also offers many other advantages as well. It can improve the hardness of particularly brittle materials, making them less likely to break or experience damage during operation. Some types of electroplating can also reduce the risk of tarnishing and other damage that could ruin the aesthetic appearance of a part. There are many different types of electroplating, with many different properties to offer that can meet your requirements.
